USCG / US Coast Guard 164.009 Noncombustible Materials Requirement
Very High Temperature, Heat, Flame, Fire Resistant & Thermal Insulating Fiberglass Sleeve, Tape, Rope, Fabric, Insulation, Tadpole Gaskets
Fiberglass Products Withstand 1000°F / 537°C continuous exposure; with excursions to 1200°F / 648°C.
In addition to protection, these fiberglass materials also provide a high insulation value.
SLEEVE
· Very high temperature and heat resistant fiberglass sleeve
meeting USCG 164.009 is used to protect a wide range of hoses, lines,
tubes, pipes, wires and cables from high temperatures and flame.
· Often the sleeve products are used in layers to provide
additional protection and insulation value.
· Perfect where molten metal exposure is not an issue.
· Saturated sleeve is anti-fray.
· Heat treated sleeve is non-shrink.
TAPE
· Very high temperature and heat resistant fiberglass tape
products meeting USCG 164.009 are used to protect a wide range of
hoses, lines, tubes, wires and cables from high temperatures and flame.
· Often the tape and sleeve products are used in layers to
provide additional protection and insulation value.
· Perfect where molten metal exposure is not an issue and a
lower cost alternative to silicone rubber coated fiberglass
tape. Fiberglass tape is available with a PSA coating.
FABRICS
· Very high temperature and heat resistant fiberglass fabrics
are used to drape, shield and insulate various industrial,
commercial, marine and aerospace components such as
valves, actuators, hydraulic cylinders, electronic enclosures,
air handling ducts, engine exhaust and muffler systems.
· Various weights and finishes are available.
ROPE
· Very high temperature and heat resistant fiberglass rope
is mostly used as a seal on oven and kiln doors, residential
fireplace doors and other high temperature gasket
applications and as a packing for industrial valves and
pumps.
· Perfect where molten metal exposure is not an issue and a
lower cost alternative to silicone rubber coated fiberglass
tape.
INSULATION
· Very high temperature and heat resistant fiberglass needled
insulation is used as the center fill insulation within insulating
covers and blankets, faced with either plain or coated
fabrics on both sides, or on one side with stainless steel
mesh on the other.
TADPOLE TAPE
· Very high temperature and heat resistant heavy duty
tadpole gaskets are used to seal valve gates and
actuators.
· Standard tadpole gaskets are smaller and more flexible
than heavy duty: perfect for smaller commercial &
laboratory oven and kiln doors.
Materials that resist catching fire, burn slowly, or retard burning can be described as either "incombustible", "non-flammable", "non-combustible", "fire-resistant" or "fire-retardant". "Self-extinguishing" materials cease burning once the flame or heat source is removed. "Fireproof" is understood to mean that an object cannot burn, but few materials are truly fireproof.
Most of our products fall within one or more of the above descriptions: they resist high temperature, flame, fire, molten metal splash and weld splatter very well but may melt with prolonged exposures past their designed maximum continuous operating temperature. They can also provide OSHA, USCG 164.009, ANSI-FM & NFPA compliance and personnel protection.
Using our products to retain heat or cold within pipes, hoses, enclosures or equipment helps conserve energy and resources, and reduces operating costs.
AB Technology Group: Keeping Our World Cooler ä. All products are non-asbestos and 100% asbestos free
Many of our fiberglass, vermiculite coated fiberglass, silica and ceramic materials contain no additives and very low lubricant content, and therefore qualify as noncombustible material under 164.009. They can be used in merchant vessel construction. We can provide either a CofC (certificate of conformity) or a Certificate of Guarantee that the supplied material meets 164.009.
